The Cryptic Tree - Rich DD Cormack

Ignorance Is Bliss

A Murder She Saw

Rich Pickings

In October I created 3 new paintings entitled the Cryptic tree. A single tree loaded with a frenzied array of wildlife. It is currently on show in the Leith Area.
52 Coburg Street to be exact.

The painting "Ignorance is Bliss" was inspired by a strained affair I had between a an older woman and a young lady of great beauty. Ignorance of either situation is well and truly... bliss.

"A Murder She Saw" is a murder of ravens and crows witnessing the death of a heartbroken family member. It is not that bird though that was murdered. That is the one at the base of the tree. This painting is inspired by a time I spent bitter at the amount of loving couples surrounding me. While I himself was alone and frustrated.

"Rich Pickings" reflects an unspoken desire to have children of my own. Due to an infection of mumps in my early twenties. I am now probably sterile. The brooding fox represents myself. I sit without motivation while a group of woodpeckers steal my eggs and crack them open.

New Work

Months pass, silence.

and then a revelation.

House 2

Set in the derelict surroundings of the Scottish highlands. Cormack's House 2 (the second in his house series) is a reaction to the faint echo's of the clearances that resonate even today. He has painted a baron seascape which collides with frenzied brushstrokes and what seems to be a well managed household. There is also a fox in there... somewhere.
